A Bow Wreath for Halloween

I’ve always loved bows. Long before “put a bow on it” became a trend and inevitably slid into the coquette abyss aisle of Home Goods, I was happily tying ribbons onto anything that stood still long enough. I know bows have had their ups and downs in the trend cycle, but I won’t give up on them. To me, they’re timeless—sweet without being saccharine, playful without being fussy.

This Halloween wreath is the perfect example. Instead of going the traditional route with plastic spiders, faux skulls, or glittered pumpkins, I leaned into what I already love: bows.

The Materials

  • A grapevine wreath base (you can find these at any craft store or even reuse one from another season which is what I did)

  • Black and orange ribbon in different textures (think sheer, satin, or even velvet if you want it moodier). I used chiffon ribbon.

  • Scissors for cutting ribbon

  • Hot glue

  • Optional: paper or felt cutouts of bats, spiders, or cobwebs for a little spooky flair. I used these bats here.

How to Make It

  1. Cut Your Ribbons – Vary the lengths so the wreath feels a little less uniform and a little more whimsical. Some short bows, some longer tails. Here’s my go-to guide for tying the perfect bow every time.

  2. Put a bow on it – Secure bows all around the wreath, alternating black and orange. Let the ends hang loose—it adds to the slightly undone, haunted vibe.

  3. Add Details – I glued on paper bats for an extra layer of Halloween without overshadowing the ribbons.
